This is going to be a new thing for the Malum Factum community – A periodical newsletter highlighting some of the great things happening here.  How convenient is it that our first installment should be just in time for the Holidays!  To get things started, this will be very heavily weighted towards Star Wars: The Old Republic considering its very recent release.  So let’s get this thing started!

SWTOR

There is no secret, SWTOR has launched.  This is very evident by all the server queue times and the abundance of QQ all over the official forums.  Early access began as early as the 13^th for some and I believe everyone who pre-ordered was invited to begin their early access by Friday the 19^th and then an official launch came on the 20^th of December.  Overall, this seemed like a pretty successful launch.  Servers have been stable, there have been few, if any, server crashes, and with only a few hiccups.  A lot of people believe the rolling early access invites could have gone smoother, but the process wasn’t terribly flawed.  We’ve all sure seen a lot worse!

Malum Factum was placed on the Veela server via the Bioware guild launch services.  This was a unique service that I don’t believe any of us have seen before in an MMO launch.  The idea behind this was to aid guilds in keeping their members together and appropriately placing the guilds on different servers to help level out the playing population between servers.  This service also allowed guilds to choose their “allies” and “adversaries” allowing these guilds to be placed on the same server.  Overall, they appeared to have done a good job placing guilds and their populations across the server.  The complaints, however, continue to pour in due to the high server queue times.  Bioware recognized this issue and with the official launch came an additional 40 servers.   (These new servers still to this day boast a light/standard population as opposed to the very heavy/full population of the original early access servers.  The addition of these servers have actually caused more crying on the official forums than praise as people during the early access spent their time progressing on their assigned server and don’t wish to reroll on the new servers.  Oh woe is life…)

As with any MMO launch, Malum Factum hit the ground running.  We have it on record that Malum Factum pulled in the first open world PvP kill to one of our “adversary” guilds, Champions of the Force (CotF).  Rampage has this claim to fame on December 16^th, 3 days after early access to CotF member Andarus.  Since then, Malum Factum, Champions of the Force, and MERC have been laying waste to each other every chance we get.  To get in on the action you can post your kill screenshot in the SWTOR forums in the thread labeled “PvP Screenshot Kill Thread”, or traverse to the Central Hub forum and enter the Adversaries and Allies sub-forum to keep the ball rolling.

Keeping with the tradition of firsts, we’ve got two more “firsts” to highlight here.  Malum Factum’s first level 50 goes to Lord Mardov Vex.  Trucking right through the content, Mardov was among the top 5 or so people on the Veela server to hit level 50.  Surprisingly enough, this happened before the official launch of SWTOR!  That’s right, the early access was long enough, and essentially smooth enough to allow players to hit the level cap before the game’s launch.  Congrats Mardov, now come help us with our heroic quests!

Malum Factum’s next “first” moment was on December 20^th when we gathered 12-13 MF’rs together and brought down our first heroic world boss.  It was a fun fight to kill Snowblind in Hoth.  His mechanics were neat; every so often he would disappear in s a scatter of snow debris that hurt the raid.  We were able to bring this beast down on our 2^nd attempt, flawlessly I might add as we suffered no deaths during our slaying.  The only reason this took us two attempts was because during the debris phase, we attempted to run out to take less damage and he reset on us.  Go figure… If you’re interested in how this fight went down check out our official Malum Factum youtube channel or our home page to view the video of our kill

WoW

Our World of Warcraft chapter has had a busy December as well!  With the release of patch 4.3, The Hour of Twilight, Dragon Soul emerged as the new raid instance finally allowing players to encounter the mighty Deathwing!  The Hour of Twilight patch actually went live in the very end of November, the 29^th to be exact.  As with all Malum Factum chapters, the WoW chapter knew it was time to get things done and wasted no time getting into Dragon Soul and go 2 of 8 by the 2^nd of December.  A mere 10 days later, 7 of 8.  Deathwing should be getting scared; it is only a matter of time before this terrible foe bites the dust at the hand of Malum Factum.  Congratulations you guys, keep up the hard work!

It is now time to wrap things up in our very first Community Newsletter.  We’ve all had a busy month, no matter which Malum Factum chapter you’re a part of.  The SWTOR release has put our heads in the game and the introduction of Deathwing there is something new to shoot for!

Malum Factum

P.S. – This just in!  Malum Factum’s WoW chapter has offed the menacing Deathwing!  This is the major boss from the Cataclysm expansion and has been a much anticipated encounter.  With Deathwing down, MF can continue to gear its players and build their community!

P.P.S. – Malum Factum’s SWTOR chapter has completed all 8man normal mode raid content!  That’s right! Eternity Vault and Hutt Hospitality are full cleared on normal mode.  Gearing has begun and hard modes should be soon to follow!

Somehow Mardov completed this feat while still sleeping 4-6 hours a night and he finished his Christmas shopping over the weekend as well. (And no, he didn’t have anyone else playing his account.) He sustained himself on a slimming diet of sandwiches and caffeine. Thanks to Rampage and Delandros for partying with him in game to help with group quests, flashpoints and leveling. I’m sure you guys will not be far behind in hitting level 50.
